Educator & Army Veteran Announces Independent Run for Colorado State House

Declares It’s Time to Put People Before Party

Broomfield, CO – Monday, January 8 – Jay Geyer has announced his run for the Colorado State House, District 33. Geyer is a university instructor, Army veteran, husband, and father.

Geyer quickly secured the endorsement of Unite Colorado (formerly the Centrist Project). Unite Colorado is a statewide organization supporting Independents with the resources they need to win. The organization has received a groundswell of support in their mission to put people before political parties.

Geyer is an Army veteran and teaches ethics and political philosophy at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He said, “I’m running for office because I have two little girls, and when I see the partisanship and dysfunction, not just in Washington, but also in Denver, I worry about what kind of country we’re leaving for them.”

Geyer continued, “When our politicians would rather play cynical games than find common ground, not only do we not get anything done, but we stop trusting each other, which is a dangerous place to be as a democracy.  As a common sense independent, I can bridge the partisan divide and get our state working for the people again

Geyer grew up in a lower middle class household where finances to seek a higher education weren’t readily available to him. He joined the Army advancing to the rank of Sergeant. Joining the Army gave him the opportunity to go to college where he met his wife. They currently have two children, ages four and one.

Todd Gibson from Broomfield said, “Our family is proud to support Jay Geyer for the Colorado State House. His service and commitment to our country and his integrity give him a unique perspective that is missing at the State Capitol. We need an independent thinker like him in the State House.”

“If you’re tired of partisanship and dysfunction, don’t waste another vote on the broken status quo.  As a common sense independent, I am committed to finding and supporting the best solutions that help everyone in our community, regardless of which side of the aisle they come from.  I care about getting things done, not about passing some ideological purity test.  And because I’m an independent, I will never be beholden to party bosses or special interests. You can trust me to represent your interests in Denver.” said Geyer.
